Yep. Buy them. Ship them home.
From what I have seen, there are quite a few active Oka enthusiests about.
Ask how much this fellow is asking.

In png i have 2 okas, 14 seat buses, rough as you would expect, but goers. I can get 2 for 16,000 AUD, i would need a 40' to ship them home.
What would an oka go for in oz,
Are they livable, this coming from a Defender owner.
Or should i soak my head in a bucket ofcold water
By all means get a Defender. If you get a good one, you'll be happy. If you get a bad one, you'll become a philosopher.

FOR SALE: OKA 4WD 4X4 MAKE GREAT CAMPER
Do you know what year and model? Or the build numbers? There were a number of good improvements made over their time. They're great machines and still a lot of enthusiasts although some of the modern alternatives such as the Mitsi Canter are taking over.
My Dad's hoping to sell his early model single cab long tray with custom slide on camper for around the $30k, I think.

About 4 years ago Kalgoorlie Oka sent half a dozen or so refurbished LT Oka's to PNG. These had bus bodies and were to be used as transport into the highlands. Only time, maintenance (or lack of it) and 'wear and tear' will determine what the vehicles are worth today. Condition is everything when determining 'what are they worth'. Fortunately Oka's are very solid, most parts are generic so relatively cheap when compared to any other 4WD and the vehicle was designed to be pulled down and refurbished, so as long as the chassis and cabin is OK the vehicles can be quite easily refurbished. As the vehicle is modular in construction the bus body can be easily removed and replaced with an 'extra cab' module or 'double extra cab' or multicab module with tray or be a single cab with long tray camper or whatever.
As a starting point check under the front LHS mudguard for the chassis mounted VIN plate. The last 3 digits will determine which of the 3 variations of Oka you have XT, LT or NT. Unlikely to be a NT as only a dozen or so were made and none AFAIK in PNG.
A few pics would be good.
I suggest you get on to the OKA website at

for more specific information.

I suspect I would love an Oka. Ugly as sin, but very utilitarian. Check this out http://www.byles.net/www.oka4wd.com/...-vehicles-only
A few years ago now we saw a dual cab version fitted out as a camper for a family traveling around Oz. It was an awesome setup with the kids seat area converting into beds at night.
I think a bus body would make an ideal camper although i did see a really nice twin cab with canvas canopy on the rear tub that looked good.
Give me a cheapie minus engine and trans then i could do a 4BD1T/MSA/LT230 conversion.
