Safety should be a good selling point.
TC is good, even on-road. I've seen the ETC light in the Freeo come up now and then on wet slippery roads.
With The heart the D3.
With the head the Prado.
We are going through the same at the moment looking at a Prado, 100series and 2 Hilux. The Prado wil be the general use vehicle, used by ER and the Nurse and for rapid response, The 2 x Hiluxes will be security patrol vehicles and trauma response. Can also be used for hazchem, search and rescue etc. Generally most of this will be in the Fire Tenders and trailers (Mazda twincab light tender, Mitsubishi Canter twin cab light tender and an Isuzu medium tender). The Mazda was the suprise vehicle able to throw out 14bar pressure, craps on the other two (pump issues not truck). Hopefully a new Ambulance as well, at this stage a Landcruiser 79 conversion at $65k which is not bad and another Mazda Fire Tender for KNC site.
The Prado wins over the 100 and a t $46k fully loaded GXL is a good price (primary producer and emergency response). The issue I have with the D3 is that there are not too many people who know how to fix or maintain them. Toyota mechanics are a dime a dozen and parts are a lot more easily available. As much as I would like a D3, practcallity comes into it and the Toymota network wins here.
Having said that I would not buy one as a personal vehicle, my preference is LR D3, F250, Navara.

if I know members of ANY highly skilled response team, the biggest factor wil be the 'Cool' factor. Ask them if they want to look like the 'Professionals' of the 21st century or another mum with her shopping trolly. Also tell them about the Brit SAS using Rangerovers etc. Thatb will suck them right in.
Practically, the flexible interior, higher carrying and TOWING capacity and it's ability to handle the road at speed, should all put the D3 ahead of the Prado.
Lastlt, tell them they build the new Hilux on the Prado frame, it's that old.
Ok to give you a run down
The disco has curse control as standard on the s model
The disco has a ton of more towing that the prado
The TDV6 has more toqure than the Prado. And after all that is what really moves the 2.5 ton of tweight of thses trucks though the air
The Disco has 8 air bags, abs , traction control, Dimatic stablising system, side impact systems. And one of only 2 4x4 in australia to pass the euro 5 star saftey test. The Volvo xc90 is the other one. Depends if you want new saftey systems or old toyota technology.
The Toyota is old and they will give you $10,000 as soon as you walk in the shoowroom
The feul economy of the prado is wrose than the disco.
The diesel engine is more like a tractor engine in the prado
The prade does not have the prestage or history that Land Rover has
If you are thinking of a se they have 7 seats but the big thing is the rear 2 seats are aldult seats and not kid seats like in the toyotas
BTW make up your mind quick. They are selling like hot cakes at the moment and the TDV6 disco's at the discount price are running out. We are finding it hard to find any the moment. I have to find 3 on monday for customer, and i can't think where the hell we are going to get them from as there is not many left. And as soon as they are all gone that is it the price is going back up.

CURSE CONTROL??????Who cursed them?

The Disco is no doubt a better choice, but the dealer network is the biggest problem in the middle of nowhere. And most smaller mechanics will not even look at an old Rangie let alone a D3.

Which reminds me of a chap with whom I worked in Telstra. He edited a number of documents to replace manhole cover with personhole cover. I said to him, "Laurie, that's flamin' ridiculous! If you have to be politically correct, at least use a sensible term like pit cover"

This is like the time, during the 80s, that after receiving a number of complaints, the body responsible for Political Correctness was going to change the name of push together terminals from MALE and FEMALE to POSITIVE and NEGATIVE.
When the proposal was put forward, a large number of women, of a certain sexual leaning, complained bitterly at the to be formerly labelled FEMALE connectors going to be hereafter labelled NEGATIVE.
So the “HOLE” idea was dropped.
