    HELP! Issue with pre-purchase inspection.

    Hi All,

I bought my L322 last Sunday from Vic (I am in NSW), and prior to purchasing I had a pre-purchase inspection carried out. The report came back with a few things which I had considered into negotiations with the owner.

Rego expires in a week and the car is basically not roadworthy until this is replaced and I can obtain a blueslip. Do I have any rights or is there anything I can do to recover the cost of this? I have already factored in $2k for repairs to get it going nice and $3k for rego and insurance. I don't have another $2k on me right now to fix this.

Hope someone has some advice for me. Please help!

    Thanks

The report came back with a few things which I had considered into negotiations with the owner. However, the front right headlight is defective and the indicator does not work properly. The horn also does not work, but it isn't as big an issue as the headlight. I would expect both issues to be easily picked up in an inspection but they weren't. After bringing the car to a few auto electricians over the past few days, I have been advised that the electronics within the headlight are faulty and I now require a new headlight. I have emailed all the Land Rover wreckers and the cheapest used 2010+ non adaptive headlight is $1200. I can only imagine a new one would be pushing $2k.

Even if the inspection was done by someone like the RACV I doubt they'd be covering the cost of your headlight... I feel your pain though. I had a prepurchase inspection give the ok only to be told a week after purchase all four brake rotors were under thickness. Hmmm...
Sounds weird but could you borrow a headlight??

Yeah it might be hard to borrow a headlight, maybe I'll just have to put it on the credit card and cop it. It's just really frustrating that you spend 1.5 hours on an inspection and miss something as little as a blinker that doesn't work!

My card has felt that pain too :/
There's lots of active members in the L322 forum, they might have additional suggestions. I have no idea about L322 headlights but the D4/Sport ones are a very easy in and out unit (and equally expensive ) :$

Thanks mate. If I really wanted to I know a few people who would give me a blueslip for the car as it is, but I honestly want my car working as it should and I also want to ensure the safety of myself and others. I might just get the car rego'd and leave it in the garage until I get a new headlight. Hopefully doesn't take too long. I might also bring this up with the workshop, got nothing to lose I guess.

Is there anyway to fit a standard globe into the headlight .... and relay it's power source back to the HID transformer input ? I'd be damned if I'd pay $2000 bucks for a simple headlight!

so what parts on the head light are faulty? why not just replace those and use your old head light carcass?

The indicator and horn MAY be related.
Look into "clock spring" or whatever they use on Rangie to get steering wheel commands to the electrical system.

    G`day , is this the problem ?

Range Rover L322 2010 Headlight Conversion Indicator Ballast Resistor 22 Ohm

Did someone suggest them for the pre-purchase or did you find them yourself , not the seller i hope ?

If it had to be that area , i would think Deacons would be the one or over a bit Ritters both have been in business a long time the one you picked 4 yrs at best . Coarse that would only count if time is a measure .

You should definitely contact them .

Places like RACV and State Roads offer a warranty albeit very meagre , $500 maybe i forget .

I paid a Queensland workshop to do a pre-purchase inspection on a soft-dash RR I bought a number of years ago. Never again. Things that I had specifically requested they look at were missed- for example I asked if there was any evidence of heavy towing and they missed the fact that the pin-hole in the tow hitch was ovalled out to 1.5 times original diameter. Sure you can complain, but are they going to overhaul the driveline for you? If you want something done properly you have to do it yourself.
