I suspect that people think it's too expensive, which when you look at what you get compared to the other large wagons (potrool, playdoh and cruser etc), it's actually pretty good. I'd buy one (if I could afford one)
I have heard in the press and via the grapevine that D3 sales are not too flash in Australia. Seems everyone is convinced but the punters.
Is it true do you reckon? Here in WA I'm told we have the number one and two dealerships in Australia for new car sales (at least that's what THEY told me). The vibe I got from a sales rep trying to flog a mate a RR Sport was that for them D3 sales were going "OK" in WA but also significantly better than other states.
Why might that be. In deep late night boozy brainstorming sessions my mates reckon it is the price (no complaints about value, just price) and the ugly (too many) rear. A couple of welded on Disco fans say it's ugly, end of story. Another bloke says they are wrong and the market needs to get used to the back end and that it will be a slow build for sales.
So is the D3 a sales flop? And what effect would a sales flop have on Land Rover in Oz?

Disco sales started slipping with the D2.
Unreliability is probably the largest single problem that has played right into the hands of the opposition.
The D3 is supposed to be far more reliable but only time will convince people to come back to LR.
The other major problem is both a lack of advertising and when they do do some, it’s crap.
When was the last time you saw a D3 ad that made you either look closely at the ad or better still, made you want to go a have a good look at a new D3.
Cheers
It certainly is value for money, and for what you get it is by no means expensive, especially when you compare it to the prices of the opposition. A top of the line Playdoh tops 70k, top of the line cruisers are the same price as the HSE D3. I am going with Drivesafe, the unreliabilty tag Land Rover has developed for itself over the years will take some shaking. As far as the D3 is concerned there havent really been to many issues that have been raised, other than glitches with the electronics which are often reset when you turn the ignition off and on. Give it time, people will come round, there are more and more on the road here everyday, i see them quite regularly. Matt

The best adds i've seen from LR were the "been somewhere interesting recently" ones. They were awesome 8)

I think it may also have to do with wait times as well as price.
I had to wait almost six months for my bus, just because I optioned it up a bit. LRA in WA had ordered no vehicles at that stage with the rear diff lock.
It's much easier to buy one of the Jap 4WD's straight off the shelf. 8O
Yeah, but anyone with half a brain would know its worth the wait.Originally posted by Jamo

Therein lies the problem. We landy owners have at least half a brain, whereas your average cruiser/patrol buyer tends to have drag marks on the knuckles.
How do you do that thing where you quote someone elses post?? I can't find it in FAQ.
