Query for the Queenslanders
Hi people,
I have had to travel for work to Brisbane a couple of times in the last month. My company is rather frugal and we use public transport a lot.
Here in Sydney I obtained an OPAL card by going to a shop (7/11 or newsagent) asked for the card and put $20 credit on it. Cost - $20.
I n Brisbane I got a card at the airport paid $50, but got $40 credit, apparently there is a $10 deposit for the GO card.
Simple question - WTF?
cheers
Mike

Yes but unless you are silly enough to link your card for automatic top up no problem for you if you lose it.
Cost of cards is virtually nil
In NSW there is no deposit. I don't understand the$10 or 20 fee.
Cheers

Get the card registered if you fear losing it when loaded with a fair bit of money.

Hi,
I think the Metro card in Hobart can be registered. Then it can be topped up or cancelled on - line.
Cheers

As others have said it's a deposit, but I think you can actually spend it by using your card.
Go to the Gocard website and register your card to your name. You can, if you wish, connect it to a card for automatic topup. It's very convenient. If you did lose the card it's easy to cancel it.
