 Interesting Facts
The VBB Mess was built in 1864. The barracks has a long history as a military barracks originally providing law enforcement and protection prior to establishment of the Qld Police. The Qld Police occupied the barracks for a limited period of time.
Enjoy the history and heritage of this old establishment and note the old photographs on display in the Mess.
Former regional, area and base military commander photographs are displayed in the formal dining room that is still used for formal military mess dining-in functions.
The museum conducts organised professional tours of the barracks, commencing with a presentation on the barracks history in the mess, which includes morning tea. This occurs on allocated week days. Brochures are provided in the mess. This service is run by Army Museum serving staff and greatly assisted and supported by a team of dedicated regular volunteers.
