    Better order before July 1.

That's when the government intends to impose a 10 percent GST on imported goods costing less than $1000. That is, if it can force foreign companies to collect the tax.

It looks like being a nightmare for the overseas companies to administer. So much so there's talk that Aussies will be blocked from buying.
    Scare tactics? Who knows!

I was reading the other day in the news that Ebay are thinking of blocking Australia from using Ebay as they say that collecting the GST for Aust Gov is going to be too difficult to administer .

In reality people generally only buy low value electronics or clothing/footwear from OS and all the big ticket items are purchased locally, so i dont see what Gerry is whinging about.

I very much doubt that eBay would abandon it's Australian "Cash Cow".
Harvey Norman sources a great deal of its inventory overseas and has been making a fortune Marking up the prices to Australian consumers for years now.
Maybe if the prices at Hardly Normal were more competitive and reflected the true value of the goods sold Old Mate Gerry wouldn't have to worry about the internet sellers.

The way I see it when I buy online is I'm doing tbe same as big business albiet on a smaller scale. It's not like much is made in Australia anymore so why should I pay someone else to import it if I don't need to.
