I see Amazon is currently setting up an Australian warehouse. Maybe eBay should do the same. Would still have to collect the GST on goods under $1000, but it might be simpler to administer through a local branch rather than from overseas.

						Doesn't bother me. I don't eBay , Amazon etc shop . If I can't get it myself , do I really need it ?
Besides isn't there a new found push to get the bigger players to pay tax on their Aust earnings ? Makes sense that all things being equal the eBay gst makes sense.

EBay don't own anything to sell , they are only a vehicle for sellers.

They'll still have to collect the GST, like any retailer.
Ebay only sells advertising space and other services relating to the sale. It would be easy for them to attach a GST component to what they charge the seller.
That is where ebays GST responsibility ends, or are you suggesting billboard companies and newspapers (in their classified sections) now have the responsibility to collect the GST on items sold in this method? Does Incisor now have to collect the GST on items sold through the items for sale section of this forum?
I think not.
Why? They have no wares to house.
GST is only payable on new, not secondhand goods.
