I bought my EL Falcon and the subsequent Territory on the advice of a Taxi operator and had 14 years of dirt cheap motoring.
The standard non turbo motor has plenty of poke and both cars were fun to drive, not to mention comfy.
Oh and Muppet, the Terry handles much better than it's live axil Brother on B Class roads.
Ian's advice is sound too but I would add moving the Regulator to the Fire Wall.
Had a BF Mark 11 XR6. Totally reliable and very economical to run. It was serviced every 6 months regardless of distance traveled by the selling Ford dealer and their prices were not onerous. I was really sorry to see it go and still regret moving it on but "her indoors" wanted a change of cars just because.
Have had an XE falcon, great car. Had an ED '94 falcon for 10yrs, had done 250km when I got it, and about 400km when I had finished with it, never let me down, had the obligatory 'head done' once, but not bad for those k's. Now have an FG XR8, best car I have ever owned. I skipped a few models between the ED and FG....but I have known a few owners of BA's and they have been very happy with them.
One in particular, who had a BA XR8 reckoned it was a terrific car, but when he got the FG XR8 he reckoned that was better again. So I think you would be safe with a BA, but if you could afford it, there are plenty of nice cheap FG XR6's out there.
AAAARGH is there no end to the depravity????
😄😄😄
No doubt about it dick.
Me Ford is beautiful.
So is Me Disco, a 1991 V8 efi 3 door. Me pride and joy that has taken me all over Oz.
So was Me Rangy, a 1998 P38A 5 ltr before the recent cyclone destroyed it.
The boys on the Ford forum also say that my XR6 model is not run in until they
have done 250,000 K.
I would suggest that those boys on the Ford forum know as much about Fords as we do on our AULRO forum.
My first Ford was a 1937 side valve V8, loved it.
I have owned 8 Fords over the years.
I drove my first Landrover in the Army in 1959.
I bought my first new one in 1962 and have owned 7 since, love them.
A few common Falcon problems that I see. In no particular order.
Warped brake discs.
Front lower ball joints.
Front upper ball joints.
Front upper inner bushes.
Rear bushes (all of them including control blade).
Tailshaft centre bearing.
Exhaust cracked through in front of cat convertor.
Diff mount bushes.
Throttle body issues.
Coil issues.
Rear shock bushes (requires shock replacement).
Sway bar mount bushes (front and rear).
Auto trans catastrophic failure.
I think the engines are basically pretty robust. Have seen a wrecker advertising them for $75, which indicates that they don't sell very many of them.
😅😅😅😅😅
...or not as the case may be...
