With the disco having lunched a Conrod bearing I find myself lacking the time and motivation to play with it. I'm currently working a 12/2 roster which leaves my time off in short supply, and I'll have increasing weekend commitments in the lead up to 6 months of study, during which I'll be travelling home during weekends. So I'm looking for a car with a bit of zip that I can drive for that while the disco sulks in the shed. I'm leaning towards a BA-BF XR6 at the moment, have taken some for a drive and they seem good if a tad soulless. However there's not a whole lot of

Robust, reliable, economical to repair and run if not constantly hoofed.
The rear suspension bushes are a simple repair if the bolts are reversed, in order that the nuts are accessible.
There was a recall on the steering rack, easy fix to stop the securing nuts coming loose.
Add an extra earth from the radiator direct to the battery.
Also consider the same model in Fairlane variant.
If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.

'El Burro' 2012 Defender 90.
Besides My Landy's my daily drive is a beautifull 2000 model 75th anniversary Futura XR6.
It has done 190 K trouble free and is a delight to drive.
This model Ford is reputed to be the most reliable Australian built car ever made.
The lads on the Ford Forum say it is not uncommon for them to do 5 or 6 hundred thousand k's trouble free.
The secret apparently is to give them a proper service twice a year.
Mine is a keeper.
