Very close.......What's the principle
The Gyroscopic Principal, which allows it stable flight as it glides to the ground. The machine is the Gyrocopter.
Cheers, Billy.
Keeping it simple is complicated.
Near enough.
I was after auto rotation.
I am a old gyrocopter pilot from way back.
Auto rotation of a spinning air foil only occurs with certain designs of air foil and only at a air flow angle of incidence of less than 2 degrees.
The idea of rotary wing flight came from a sycomore seed and without auto rotation helicopter flight would be deadly if the engine fails.
A helicopter with enough height can glide to a safe landing without the engine.
Provided it still has a Tail Rotor.
Its still your go R I need to sleep.
Cheers, Billy.
Keeping it simple is complicated.
Don't need a tail rotor for autorotation as there is no drive and therefore no torque reaction though the air frame.
Gyrocopters have no tail rotor, only a rudder to steer and in a vertical decent don't even really need that just the same as the sycamore seed.
I realise I forfeited my go before, but I'm going to jump in anyway.

Have a crack at this one ladies and gents.
[edit] and why is it so 'different' to what has been 'normal' in this application ?
