New diesel engine for Rangie, when? what?

    Hi All

I heard that they were looking at a 3 point something V8 diesel for the Range Rover. Has anybody heard anything about when Australia will see a new engine?

Are they locked in to a contract with BMW and have to see it out?

If you were in the fortunate position to be considering a new rangie (I'm not but I know someone) would you hold off? The TD6 is a fine engine I know but I look at the power figures and they are close but inferior to the TDV6 and they are not as good as the figures for a VW luxubarge transporter I was browsing last night.

Comments, rumours and gossip would be gratefully received.

    J

Yes i'm interested too... as the TDV6 isn't quite up to scratch either compared to others. My old man has an X5 and is halfway interested in the RR sport but it's 3 seconds slower on the performance stats so reluctant :?

I would have thought that the new diesel for the RR would have been the twin turbo version of the TDV6.

actually that could be a logical step... Jag have a twin-turbo TDV6 that they're about to put in their S Type
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'> This twin-turbocharged V6 developed by Jaguar produces desirable qualities such as 435Nm at 1900rpm and respectable acceleration, by any measure, of 0-100km/h in 8.6 seconds[/b][/quote]

The new diesel engine for the Range Rover Vogue will be the new TDV8 (essentially a tdv6 plus 2 extra cylinders).

We will probably see this in late 2006 / early 2007 I beleive.

In the meantime the Vogue will continue with the TD6 rather than the TDV6 from the D3 / RR Sport.

The TDV8 for the RR will apparently be a single turbo unit; but the TDV8 engine will also make its way into the Jaguar XJ series, in a twin-turbo version.
It's not broken. It's "Carbon Neutral".

Its about time they made a Diesel V8.

Its a shame the "Iceberg" concept (the diesel version of the Rover V8 ) didn't go anywhere.

Yes judging by the photo it would have been a very tidy solution....

It is rumoured to be a V8 Turbo diesel of less than 4L capacity. I dont really see the TD6 as a problem, its a very good engine, but Ford want to phase out any engine which was introduced by BMW, there is nothing wrong with the TD series engines, ie the TD4 TD5 and TD6.

There was an article in LROI a while ago about it and all they knew was that it will be less than 4L in capacity and that it was centred around Ford wanting to use engines which come from within the PAG, which i reckon will most likely be Jaguar. Matt
