Spelling

My daughter found my report card from Hume Weir School, 1954, 1st Class.

Results:

Spelling 100%

You can see I started young!

For completeness:

Number 90%
Writing 60%

ops:
Reading 96%

Place in class: 1st.

You don't see results like that any more because they are too frightened to grade kids (it would show up just how badly kids are educated in the basics these days. If the teachers can't spell, how will the kids cope?).

Everything is competency based training these days - and you'll get graded competent even if you aren't.

I wish! Bloody NSW govt has made them illegal. Wowsers. So many kids today have never had a cracker blow up in their hand, fired skyrockets off, blown stuff up with tuppenny bungers. Sad really.

What to do with a nubility was never on the agenda, but fantasy is a constant.

So mastering modified cursive (or in your case copper plate with quill and ink :wink: ) is no longer a measure of competancy in the modern world. A bit like typing and text messaging with spell checking software and knowing how to plug stuff in is now a measure.
