Hey MR Mick,

The mode plate does in deed exist.. some where. The said car has been rego'd in two other states and Vicroads also agree that the national database has been updated to have said mods.
But not having the plate means I can't get anyone here in Melbourne to do a roady as they all want the plate.

QLD transport do not keep them on file either. (So I have been told by them anyway)

@all - ta for the posts and thoughts. I always knew there was a risk - more so buying it from interstate.

But you are right there is no firm answer and to be clear - I was never asking the forum to help resolve this. I don't have unlimited resource but I do earn a decent wage.
I guess the thing that really gets me, and I know not all will understand this; but the gent seemed very well respected both in his line or craft and a religious person providing services.
we had an agreement , I stuck to it 100% and managed to come up with 12k in 6 weeks with much stress. And what I have in return doesn't equate or work out. More so now that I can't even use the damn thing.

Cop's pulled me and checked over it since it not a VIC reg and wanted to see all my paper work, saw the mod on the old rego's and wanted to see the plate. I was lucky to get away with no fine they way they were talking.

That and having worked in IT all my life I have heard all these stories before, read about them before and feel down right stupid for getting myself in to the situation.

The other ****ty thing is that under the body - the things freaking unreal. Just useless with out the plate and getting it in to my name.

Hi ,
I had Anthony Johnson in Melbourne convert my leaf spring stage one to coil front ,pas, discs etc for what is now an ambulance and it was engineered with detailed photos etc but no actual mod plate was issued so maybe one does not exist /be required depending on in which state the work was done--and mine was on NSW rego (very strict as we all know) and then later on sold to a Vic owner and then again later back to me in Sydney--the authorities kept the eng approvals (two in fact) on file and did not even want to see them last year when I bought it back--so maybe they are on file and you do not actually need a metal plate. They should be able to track it down by vin and /or engine number, prev rego number I would hope.

Interstate car? Surely a search can be made by their rego department as to who certified it?

LPG I guess isn't strictly a mod, and does not need engineering, but it DOES need a compliance plate.

Yes I believe that can be done, If you know who did the report and plate in the first place. Makes it hard since I have no idea.

The mod in question is huge. was never bought in to Australia like this, even if it was done at the factory at one stage - the only ones that made it here are grey imports.[bigwhistle]

Yeah, dealing with the bureaucracy is tiresome. Sometimes it's probably easier to have it recertified. ( There is a VASS not far from you who I would talk to. I've got his details somewhere ). Can you tell us what the mod is, or would that be giving something away that you don't want to? If it's, say, a diesel into a RRC it's possible that that engine was an option elsewhere, and VicRoads can accept that in certain circs.

Not sure from reading whether the vehicle was modified in NSW or not but NSW does not have "mod plates" I have an engineered vehicle here in NSW and the report is on file at the RTA and no other evidence of the engineering is required. I have the original report but I don't believe that there is any requirement for me to pass it along if I was to sell the car.
