After this he goes to the pub, if it was me I would have gone straight to a lotto shop and bought myself a ticket!

I think he used all his good luck up, Mario. A stiff drink was his best option.
Having been in a similar situation I can tell you, logic and reasonable thought go out the window, you brain wants to get back to safe, normality.
I think the bus driver must have had a medical episode. He must have been familiar with the road yet it was obvious that he was never going to make the corner.
Hang on, was The Hamster driving?

The media have been haming up the bit about him going to the pub after the incident but if you watch the video right to the end you will see all the people trying to help someone at the entrance just out of site - somehow I think he collapsed in the doorway and didn't actually get to the bar for his pint - though the media would have us believe that.
