Or ZF 9 speed a bit like in the Evoque & DS, with wider ratio spread. And yes with a detuned Ingenium.

Why detuned?,... Lol!
But seriously, there are plenty of ingeniums available,..amazing what they get out of 2L these days,...the latest 2L petrol Ingenium has just been released, with,...300HP,...but there's plenty of others, ...I reckon there'll be a range of ingeniums available, just as there are in other Landrover vehicles.
Pickles.
Ingenium is a modular range, I think from memory in 500cc units.
I assume it will have a Discovery platform, lots of aluminium, Ingenium engines, six-speed manual and eight or nine auto, similar suspension to Discovery, a range of body styles and follow the 'durable' theme. There will probably be two and three litre turbo diesels, a TDV8 and a petrol six. I imagine a basic work vehicle, a mid-range trim and a luxo version.
That's what I imagine. Time will tell.
Detuned for product differentiation.

The problem will be resale, ease of modification and aftermarket, which is what makes the defender so popular, and have so much retained value.
With JLR heading down the same path as the other EU members with security and programing locked up, and going so far as to put the service books online , locking out any independent mechanics from it, to force owners to use only JLR dealers for servicing and repairs.
Want your replacement transmission to connect its ecu to your car, must see the dealer.
Keys coded to car, see dealer.
Service due notification off dash display, see dealer.
What's due in this service, its in a JLR server locked to others, so must see dealer!
This is not just JLR

Exactly,.."it ain't just JLR" ,....couldn't agree more.
Pickles.
Of course it ain't just JLR. EU regs make it almost impossible for it to be any other way, and if JLR are to sell into that market Brexit won't make any difference, unless they all do it. I've seen it in Euro trucks for some time. Of course, it isn't really an issue for the first few owners, but there'll be no forums for 20 year old Discos in 20 years.
Dunno if you guys know it, but the Japanese have been taxing cars off the road after about 7 years. In another life I was involved in importing stuff from over there to fit to cars here. We could buy a "front half", complete with all mechanical and electrical components for about 100th of what we could sell the parts for. Had to be a "half", though. Cost way too much to bring in entire cars, at least for the parts business. These cars would otherwise have been crushed. The EU is heading in the same direction. Watch us do the same.
Keeping them alive makes us eco vandals, somehow, and yet my D1 will never, in it's lifetime, use as much energy or materials as what would be needed to replace it. ( Leaving out making it in the first place, and some of the fuel; all cars need fuel)
