Hello from Brisbane.

Got caught in the same way as the earlier posts and, needless to say, have no inclination to pay the US$400 ransom fee.

Tried to download a copy of my album to at least remember what was there if I decided to attempt to restore my various threads. So, followed the apparent procedure but just got a message that it would take a while so if I didn't want to wait it would email me to let me know that the download had been completed. Needless also to say no such message came and my album was already trashed by the time that I re-logged to the PB site. The photos were still showing when I initially decided to attempt the download.

How do you cancel a Photobucket account? It probably says on the site, but then it also said that you could download your albums...

I went through the phone app and saved all my photos to my phone.

I am going to wait on deleting my account just case they change it back.

I downloaded one large folder and had no issues - also tried a smaller one and too forever to get the email but it did come through after I was asleep so was after the 12hour window so did not work.

Not sure how your album got trashed because if you do not actually download it all stays as it was - try a new download.

I am going to download my albums and then delete the pics - but leave the account open - they can look after the empty account.

I have switched over to Flickr - works fine.

Seems to be preventing me from taking my images off it now.

If it was $50 per year millions would do it... but $500????
