That is what is so despicable about their actions. Sure, they were a hosting service, but they also purported to be a back up service. I'm lucky I chose not to trust them, or Picturelife, entirely for my back ups. I have sufficient HDD storage for my pics, but wanted a secondary, off line backup. HDDs fail. Now, Flickr ( Yahoo are hopefully big enough to maintain that service ) and iCloud ( Apple are definitely big enough ) take care of my off-site storage.
I imagine PB will sink like a stone for having done this. The opprobrium directed towards them online would seem to seal their fate. In fact, I won't be surprised if there is a class action against what remains of them, as the photos they host are the intellectual property of YOU, the people who uploaded them. It will get ugly.
I'm interested to hear from our high end picture takers on where they choose to store their pix. Mark?
