Be like me - don't go and don't accept the rellie.
I've just been informed we're off to Lightning Ridge next week.
We have a Dutch speaking, hoity toity, designer label wearing, confirmed city slicker outlaw visiting from Europe. She landed in Sydney, sans luggage (still in Amsterdam), early in the week, met by the self appointed matriarch from Mudgee.
The matriarch detests city life and shopping as much as the tourist hates animals and provincial hum drum. You should hear the fireworks from your house JD!
The Monster from Mudgee has decided a family reunion will occur at Lightning Ridge!
Lightning flippin' Ridge for Heaven's sake, I've never felt the desire to go, Mrs V8 has no urge, as for the lover of bright lights, need I say more? MfM, oddly will get to cross it from her bucket list, even though she keeps confusing it with Cooper Pedy.
I can read the leaves, the tourist will be dumped on us!
Do we have any members in Lightning Ridge? I might need some respite.

Ron, the resultant misery would be worse than the trip, at least I've put my foot down with a firm hand, insisting we take the Disco.
We'll have to do coffee/lunch on your way home now.

Bring some cold cans to the lightning ridge bore baths, and soak in the 37 degree water from sunset to dark.
Watch the stars. Drink more beer. You won't be disappointed.
It's a nice vibe in the ridge. Real Australia. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.
Bonus points if you visit the opal fields at Grawin, west of Cumbora. Can recommend the Glengarry Hilton for a cold one. Watch out for open mine shafts though!

Take her to the town thermal swimming pool. Lots of gorgeous not, fat old ladies bathing there after a day working hard underground.
I wanted to go for a swim but the pool was full , lucky for me.![]()
Mitch, I was going to book into "Chasin' Opals" as the camper remains unfinished (I tried to use that as an excuse for her to go alone), any better recommendations?

Been there for work once or twice. Stayed at the Wallungulla motel opposite the RSL club in the middle of town.
The opal caravan park opposite the bore baths is nice, and has cabins too, but is a few kays out of town.

It's your fault Ron, had you agreed to my proposal, I'd have had a cast iron alibi.
