    A CHALLENGE THAT PAID OFF

Back in March my RSL / Golf club ( No I don't play golf) suffered from the floods The golf club maintenance shed was under 4 meters of water along with a lot of equipment as the water came up over night very fast, Their Kubota tractor went under too due to the fact it could not be moved due to needing a clutch replacement I had volunteered to replace the clutch as jester of good will when I returned from my trip to Maralinga , when I returned they had written it off but as a challenge a friend and I took it on to see if we could fire it up again. with the out any cost
The first thing I did was drain 10 lts of oil and mainly water from the sump, then we removed all accessories from the engine starter motor , alternator, manifolds etc. when I tried to remove the injectors it became impossible as its a special tool that we could not lay our hands on, so we had to drain the water out of the pistons through the glow plug holes then I filled each cylinder with as much WD 40 as possible 2 days later I turned it over by hand with out any resistance I worked on the theory that if the fuel system was not leaking no water could get into the injector pump etc.
this week and $20 later with the aid of start u barsted it coughed and roared to life. It was a great achievement in some ways but not as good as the response from the head green keeper and his staff
This coming month we finish putting everything back on the engine and tow it on to concrete and start on the clutch The $20 was for 2x bearing in the starter motor and alternator

You could boil the water out of the oil to keep within your $0 challenge.
