Yes we do. We're all amateur Diagnosticians here. There's a one in a billion chance one of us could find a cure.

I'm glad it's nothing sinister.

I had a patient once who had Stevens-Johnson Syndrome, which is an inflammatory immune system reaction affecting the skin (often a reaction to medication). His eyes were swollen shut and he ended up having to go a a burns unit.

As for triage, (I work as a paramedic), people often call for an ambulance thinking they'll get seen faster in ED. I explain that in the ED people are treated in the order they're going to die. The good news is they're not dying, the bad news is they'll be waiting awhile.
