    Sourcing quality parts

After spending the last two weeks tearing my hair out in an attempt to fix the brakes on my Disco 1, the outcome was that I had two brand new replacement parts master cylinders that were duds.
These came from a reputable supplier, and I believe that they have tried to source quality parts whenever possible.

However, both of the master cylinders were U/S.

My diagnostic skills with brakes are a little limited, but I had a fair idea that after replacing the proportioning valve, the flexible lines, checking all the calipers and flushing/bleeding about $200 worth of brake fluid through the system forwards, backward, vacuum, pressure and gravity that the master cylinder was the only possible culprit.

Surely two brand new MC in a row couldn't be faulty - well, yep they were.

Once I'd regained some composure, I decided to check on suppliers of parts direct from the UK for future purchases.
Britpart, Allmakes, Bearmach all came up in my searches.
The genuine LR part was around $700 (which in hindsight was probably a good option, but on a car worth $4k how can I justify that?), and all the others were around GBP35-75

My question is, what parts are people using?
Have they all had nightmare issues with rubbish parts?

I like to support local suppliers, and I'll accept having to pay more for the convenience of overnight delivery of parts, but it seems like they aren't sourcing parts that are any better than the cheapies from the UK.

My first port of call will always be Roverlord Offroad Spares, great service, quality parts and fast postage. As a bonus, Mario/Heather offer fellow AULROians a discount if you purchase via PM on this site.
If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.

I have ordered many an odd part from TR Spares - Land Rover Parts | Range Rover Parts | wwww.trspares.com.au
Never had any problems with quality.

On the topic of sourcing brake parts - where is the best place to source extended brake lines for a Disco?

LOOK AFTER THOSE THAT LOOK AFTER YOU

I have found this post / subject very interesting and have waited some time before adding my thoughts, I agree with a lot that's been said regarding quality parts etc One thing I learnt when doing a total engine rebuild on a TDI 300 engine was to look at UK prices and deals then on the advice of another member I did some looking in my own back yard Brisbane to my surprise genuine part, guaranteed were less than an hour drive away It is no longer really that cheaper to buy from the UK postage is a killer unless you are prepared to pay . My 300 parts were only $80 dearer than UK not including postage and to my way of thinking I would rather chase / fight a warranty claim in my own back yard, not overseas.
I am sure there are many dealers with in Australia that are worth dealing with The one thing I found early in life was loyalty and attitude cuts both ways when dealing with any one regardless of what is being purchased. If I lived in Melbourne I would use local dealers.
I have found loyalty brings better deals in many cases I have on several occasions recommended to members a L/R dealer here in Brisbane with very negative replies I don' t expect deals from any one that I dont regularly deal with a lot, My miter 10 store gives me staff price on big ticket items My local Repco is always trade I no longer have to ask for it. Most of us do not think of overheads involved in retail stores etc If they did not profit they wont last

Depending on the length of them it could be a packing & shipping problem as they are liable to get bent , I would take the old ones to a brake place and have the made up cost should not be that much
