I have a nephew who works on rigs in the North Sea.
He gets really crap money unless he gets onto a Norweigan Rig.
The reason is that the sort of 'reforms' that Howard wants to bring in here are in place there. The lowest bidder for the jobs gets them. The Russians undercut everybody & so set the wages really low. The Norweigans are still Uniosised & so conditions are way better, but hard to get on those rigs.

I don't work on one, but i deal with heaps of guys that work on them.
Generally 14 days on, 14 days off. Fly u in and out. Money is very good in Aus. Conditions are very good (As much as they can be).
If you don't like unions, don't bother.
I know a few guys. Normally even time rosters - equal days on equal days off. Will fly you in from anywhere and usually a minimum of $100k a year.
Was offered one as a medic recently. Not with young kids at home.
