It dont matter the brand, Nissan, Jeep, Toyota, Land rover, VW, Audi... They all get upset if you rag them...

Lack of broad shoulders or just too stupid to realise that people are fallable and vehicles are made by people...

Oops did I just upset some humans? Oh well I have plenty of wood in the paddock, you can have it to build a bridge and get over it...

Most people that spend there lives away from the rat race will appreciate a reliable vehicle but if you drive in the bush constantly you will be able to take a vehicle where others dare to tread and in doing so, you get to know what a decent 4x4 can do, even if it has a roof lining falling, drips oil, and is ragg'd by others for being rough inside... At the end of the day I have taken trucks to places that others would be scared of taking a 4x4 and when you take a Mack(1970 model) with 2 trailers down a track and have to go back and tow a Nissan(1986 model, I thought was a good model too) in that was supposed to follow you, then you can appreciate that not all 4x4's are good offroad...

When I bought my D2 I was chatting with a Prado owner who was telling me how much maintenance I was going to have to do since I'd bought something european.
In the next breath he was telling me about how good the Prado owners group was, especially how they could do group buys of commonly failing parts such as lower control arms.
Apparently the 90 series prado has a habit of snapping lca's and shedding wheels so much so that most owners carry a spare set with them, took me a while to stop laughing after that...

Land Rovers are not without their fair share of problems but then again almost every car has it's own particular quirks.
To be honest the reliability hype plays well for most on here as landies are generally quite a bit cheaper than their Japanese counterparts.

True. I just picked up an early D3 TDV6 for less than I paid for my 300Tdi D1 only 6 years ago. Admittedly the D3 it has a lot of kms on it but servicing has been up to date and all the big ticket items have been done. Let's see if the D3 turns out to be as nice to own as my D1 currently has been and as reliable well off the beaten track. Maintenance (not just servicing) is key on Land Rovers so I am under no illusions, but I have a very big grin everytime I look at both cars.
