The 99-02 had just a single headlight globe.
The 03-04 have 2 headlight globes.
They might be interchangeable but I'd imagine the surrounding trim/grill would be different also.
Can anyone tell me the difference between the original D2 square headlight asssembly and the D2 update round headlight assembly ? Are the globes and reflectors imporved or has just the lens appearance changed.
Thanks, Ian.

You can upgrade to the later headlight, but why would you, they are $450 a side compared to $70 for the ealy DIIs and late D1s.
Don't know how much the upgrade is.
They look good though.

Thanks, I currently have an 01 but will be changing to an 03 with the newer look lens and I just wondered if they produced better light. The 99-02 lights are not that great. I was hoping Landrover (BMW or Ford) had improved them, but it seems that it is only a cosmetic update.
Thanks, Ian.
While we're on the topic, is there a list anywhere of the changes made in the D2 update i.e. 02 onwards models with the new look?

I have a '99 D2 and yes the headlights are rubbish. I also have IPF spots and when you come off of main beam on those and onto low beam, you are practically left in the dark 8O I ended up buying new H4 globes from ARB which gives me better and whiter low beam and it makes a big difference over standard bulbs. You could probably pick them up from anywhere but I would suggest this option first and if you run spots, go for the brigher low beam at the expense of better high beam - that's what your spots are for![]()
The other option is to go for larger wattage etc but I did not go this route as I wanted to keep me existing looms.
Good luck, Mick
I found the same after dipping from IPF spotties and being plunged into darkness. I replaced the globes with 90/100W with no loom upgrade, then had the beams realigned and they've been good. I did this about 3.5 years ago. If you headlights are dim, I would first try realigning them as this does make a noticable difference.

Sorry to bring up a very old thread
BUT
I got asked if this upgrade was possible today. Has anyone done it as yet? What modifications are required? How much time and money did it cost? Was it just the lights or bumper and grill as well.
How much cutting was required.

I looked at changing my 01 to to the 03 on headlights, however it is not as easy as it looks because the radiator support has to be changed and that is around $500.00 for a start. I'll stick with the globe upgrade for now unless somebody accidently wipes out the front.
