    Larry Perkins,...Land Rovers?

We were at our usual HSV Owners Club "pre Bathurst" visit to the race team workshop last night, where we were addressed by amongst others, co-driver Jack Perkins, who when questioned as to what his Dad was doing these days, mentioned that He was mucking around with a few old Land Rovers, he mentioned a Series 1 with a grey motor in it. Presumably these would be on the family property at Cowangie,....anybody have any info on this?

larry recently did a rebuild on a series motor. You don't see him looking "absolutely delighted" very often.

check out the video in the Perkins Engineering Facebook page.

LP in his element today. His latest project is restoring a couple of vintage old Land Rovers. This is the first engine for one of the vehicles. He has completely rebuilt it, sourcing new parts from all around the world, and it hasn't been running for 57 years! Here's the first touch on the starter button !!

    Cheers,

For his next trick, Larry'll be fitting a Signature 750 to a Defender.
If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.

During my working career, when I had one of the most enjoyable periods of my career, dealing with
"Truckies", I became quite familiar with the various powertrains, ....but nothing around the "750" number, so is that the top H.P. of the latest Cummins?

I'm hoping he'll be at Sandown in a couple of weeks so I can have a word with him,, but I might get lucky and see him at a mates place sooner. They're best buddies, so if he's there, it'll be good to hear exactly what he's doing.

Not officially, but there are codes out there been written that give a Signature a few more ponies. There is an 1,100 HP code I've seen written and used in a racing truck, nothing else required but a laptop to double a standard Signatures horsepower - although it reduces its lifespan from more than 1,000,000KM to around 500KM (if you're lucky)

750HP codes are quite common and I know of more than one owner/operator that does linehaul up the Hume running 750HP Signatures.

Without incriminating myself, it's a tad scary being in a fully loaded B Double doing 140...

I met Larry in Alice a few years ago.
Larry is one of a handful of drivers in my favourites list.

I saw a lovely yellow/orange D.C. Unimog and had to speak to the driver.
I was so interested in the Mog I didn't realise why the face in the cab was familiar.
Introduced my self as did he (first names) Had a bit of a chinwag about the Mog and where he could get some thing (can't recall what it was) in Alice.
I even asked what he did for a living to which he responded that he ran an engineering company.
Dummy here still slow to join the dots.
Anyway later in the day a mate called saying he had seen Larry Perkins in town and the penny dropped.Larry Perkins,...Land Rovers?
I know it's got little to do with the main topic but thought I'd share the anecdote.
