    House Air Con Question

Should you run the home air con every so often like the vehicle systems?

Not really necessary. With a car air con. it has a mechanical seal on the compressor shaft. It will deteriate because of a lack of oil, and start to leak if left for too long with out being used. (varies with the type of compressor.)

A domestic compressor is hermetically sealed inside the housing. The only place they will leak are faulty connections in the gas tubing, or other such damage. If it is going to leak running it now and then will not make any difference.

The only reason to run it would be to blow out any geckos, rats, snakes, and anything else that may be hiding in it.

In fact, more importantly, every six months or so i would take the top off and spray lanolin around. Also spray around the electrical and pipework entry holes, and around the base of the unit.

Vermin in domestic split systems cause more failures than anything else, damage to PCB's being the main issue.

That is apart from installers that don't know WTF they are doing.
