Expressions of Interest Tassie Xmas 06/07

    Hi All,

Due to the fact that I used my leave up mostly for this year due to health scares in the family and didn't get away as planned over the Xmas break just gone it will mean no Cape or desert trips during winter this year so will be looking at Xmas period this year to get more than a week off again.

So given the fact that the Cape would be too wet and the deserts too hot I was considering where else to go and instantly thought of 2 places.

    The High Country and Tassie.

Now every *#% and his dog gets up the High country over Xmas it made the Tassie prospect very appealing (plus the fact ya get to take ya 4by on a big boat trip)

The other plus is it is about the only time you would get me down there with my Queensland wardrobe being semi suitable for the climate conditions (thongs, stubbies and singlet  )

So what are we to expect, who can we catch up with and is anyone else interested in joining us for some or all of the trip :?:

Will probably be away for approx 3 weeks or so, and hopefully with the camper (yet to be aquired  ) in tow.

Definate possibility....all going well the rest of the year of course. We've talked about doing a Tassie trip sooner or later...Might be a good way to set the goal and work to it I guess. Now that we have our camper trailer(2nd hand one) just looking for excuses to go...... Went to the Barrington Tops for Australia day weekend and the wife and kids loved it....so bring it on........

The list of things to see is pretty large. To begin with there are the 2 breweries, boags and cascade

Cradle mountain, lake st Clair, freycenet, queenstown, strahn, the ABT railway, the tahune airwalk, cataract gorge, ben lomond, mt wellington, stanley, the northern explorer (the road to nowhere), don river railway, lake barrington, the various hydro dams and power stations, bay of fires, the gordon river, port authur, eaglehawk neck and surrounding area and that's just from the top of my head now, i'm sure i'll think of other things

I'm interested. I hate Sydney in summer so a cool place would suit me fine. I've been intending to go back in a 4WD........ but can I afford it in a V8 petrol County?

depends on what kind of areas you are talking about? Ocean beach has very easy access, as do many of the mining areas like zeehan and it's surrounds. Trial harbour is a nice spot, and if your vehicle is narow enough, the spray tunnel at zeehan is a must as is the mining museum there.

Sarah island is not accessable by 4wd because it's an island . You can get to it by private boat, but the best way to see it is during one of the gordon river cruiese that go to the gordon river, sarah island tour, hells gates and the fish farm. It;s the best part of a day, but well worth it, a good feed as well from memory.

Me and the lady where there in August-September last year, took the Landy and Camper on the Boat. Caught up with Phoenix and his lady. Had a great time looking around and used up the full 4 weeks we had.
The Gordon River cruise is amazing and well worth the $. Take the one that gives you lunch . (There are 2 companies that do the tours). There is a great 4x4 track around Zeehan going up to the waterfall. Can't remember it's name, but good fun.
    Cheers Tyrepower
