In the USA for the rest of the month

I arrived in Houston yesterday with two young grandchildren, will be here for the rest of the month. The trip - Canberra - Sydney - Dallas - Houston was uneventful, with the exception of a rather anxious connection in Dallas - arrived at the departure gate with two minutes to spare, after our bags coming off just about last, and long queues at the self check immigration facility.

The fifteen+ hour trip Sydney Dallas seems to be a good idea, as it enables you to dodge LAX or SFO facilities.

I am mainly here to visit family.

Probably a good call. Cousin of mine (while not a pilot works for a government department who operate a fleet of planes) says that based on his experience Baghdad was the worst airport to transit that was until he had to go through LAX which pushed Baghdad off the podium. Yes he has been a visitor to both over the last 10 years. What he says really makes LAX annoying is that they have made it unpleasant and difficult on purpose it does not have to be like it is. One to be avoided if there is an alternative. Perhaps both to be avoided !!!

This may be something to think about when I go back to visit my family. I always go through LAX and it's a NIGHTMARE even for me being American.

I’ve only been to America once, landed in LAX....thought it was fairly straight forward to get to our connecting flight...which was in a different terminal

15hr trip? gasp!. I have trouble flying to Sydney or Adelaide. My last couple of trips over the pacific have been via Hawaii with a few days there each way just so I can rest from the flying.....I ****ing hate it.....my wife loves it.
The biggest problem for me is there are no interconnecting short flights out of Australia in any direction to break the flying time up. I don't mind international holidays , in fact I enjoy them.
So it will be Bris-Singapore onwards or Bris-Hawaii onwards or Bris-NZ onwards.
Now if Qantas's new dreamliners are all cracked up as they say ie. quiet, comfortable I may change my point of view.
