    25km/h

Remember this road rule introduced not long ago.
SA roadside emergency speed limit lowered to 25kph from September - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)

Yes, it's 40km/h in states other than SA.

I remember a few road safety groups thought it would cause more accidents. Well, it's been in for some time now.

SA Police urge speed limit increase to avoid collisions around parked emergency vehicles - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)

    Well, whooda thunk it!

Yes it's bloody ridiculous, travelling along at 100kph, then people are jumping on the brakes down to 25kmh. The original law when it was 40kph was brought in with the intent of covering emergency workers at a scene on the road. Which I have no problem with. This new 25kph now encompasses a police car with another car pulled over for a traffic offence, on the side and often right off the road. It is overkill. Glad to see that they are seeing sense.

as a firefighter who has the south eastern freeway (110km/h) in our primary response area. i like the 25km/h limit because drivers were ignoring the 40km/h limit (i hate to say it but semi were the worst offenders)

having said that, ive have seen an accident cause someone wasnt paying attention (rubber necking) and they smashed into the car in front doing 25. the driver rubber necking had to be extracted. the last thing we want is another accident while we're already at one.

Re: rubber necking......I pretty much human nature to have a look....very hard not to have a look, a default of this most people take their foot off the accelerator natural as they are not looking where they are driving and quite often start steering towards where they look.

A car pulled over on the side of the road nobody blinks an eyelid....flashing lights and everybody looks.

One car gets pulled over on freeway in Perth...
UHF goes mad about it, cool about 4 k's away, I'll be right...
Next thing 5 cars involved in accidents, by the time I got there, nearly all lanes closed and a ute in right lane facing wrong way with front end damage...

That 4 k's took an hour to cover...

I find in Perth, when one has stopped, the others just have to outdo them by using there cars as bumper cars...

Because of this, the 25 kmh rule would never be broken, there are too many obsticles when one stops...

    There, fixed it for you...

Edit: check out the link below, and especially the video half way down. Some of the info is old, but has been repeated more recently with the same results. Namely, road engineers are saying that speed limits are set too low in many places which contributes to more accidents, but conversely makes more revenue.

Good video, backs up the NT when they dropped the speed and decided it was not healthy due to the fatalities, thus increased it...

And you believe people are going to Obey the 25km/h limit?
Yes I think there should be a decrease in speed when you see emergency / police vehicles
I think 40km/h is too slow when you are on the freeway - but suitable for in town. On the freeway i think 60km/h would be more reasonable.

for the most part yes they do do 25 now.

i dont want cars rushing past me at 60 while im trying to cut someone out of a car.
the alternative is we close the the road and people do zero km/h
the safety of firefighters working will always come first.

Hi there I'm at a truck driver and a RACV patrolmen and I found that it's a bit of a game with drivers to see who can drive the fastest past you and who can get the closest maybe not at 25 km but certainly something has to be done I've been hit by mirrors I've nearly been pinned between cars people just don't care
    thankyou Rowland
