Another senseless tragedy

Im from the sit down, belt up, and shut up old school, my phone is inaudible when driving.

But what special training, if any, do emergency services get to use their phones while mobile, that makes it safe. :-?

Not all persons are incompetent or unable to multi-task in a safe manner.

Not on public roads, but at work, I have to handle 2 two way radios (different frequencies) and a mobile on hands free. It’s very intensive, but can be done and is almost entirely done by feel rather than visual.

Like anything, it’s a acquired skill and extremely important not to lose focus...

My only complaint for phone users in vehicles is those holding the device to their ear..

Would you be able to concentrate on your driving better if you didn't have the distraction of 2x 2 ways and a phone?
If you answer yourself Honestly you will agree that phones are Not a great idea.

Same applies with a nagging wife and screaming kids - lets not let them in the car either.

Agree that higher penalties don't do much as repeat offenders don't expect to be caught. So, make it more likely for them to be caught. Radar makes everyone slow down. Highly visible patrol cars have the same effect.

Agree , iPod is better . I have about 10 000 songs loaded onto mine . It would be very distracting carrying the cd s and records and trying to play any of them while driving. Besides that I would likely lose my coffee or drinks holder in the mess .

The CD player in my 110 works with MP3 and you can fit a lot of CDs on one DVD in that format! The radio in my 2a has a USB input - and you can fit even more on a 16GB USB!

...and handsfree too: "Hey Siri, play my favourites". or "Hey Siri, play songs by Wallis & Matilda"

Works a treat and Siri doesn't, usually, answer back or argue.
