    Another senseless tragedy

I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food

A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking

Zero sympathy for these total moronic idiots. Too bad it wasn't on a lonely unoccupied stretch of road. Instead innocents are killed and maimed. About time this useless government brings in some real deterrents...

Not sure if deterrents work. Out running tonight and got two apologies which sounded like " Sorry I did not see you" when I was bailing out of the way of two cars speeding over a very clearly marked pedestrian crossing. Riding the night before had me bailing off my bike onto the grass when a slow moving car slowly veered across the road towards me. She was on the wrong side of the road and appeared to be off her face. Lucky the police seem to have found her before she killed herself or others!

Burwood woman caught driving at more than six times the legal blood alcohol limit

If we drove our Landrovers like those above people would die even if we said sorry .

Luckily 95% or more drivers are very nice most of the time. As I only lost a bit of skin from the Drunk driver avoidance I consider my self rather lucky.

Hope you all had a great Christmas. I did.

You don't have to look too far to witness self centred morons on the road . Start with mobile and gps obsessed robots , to the I have to be in front at any cost. That's before ever reaching the highway.

Try reflective Lycra. Seems Lycra is always visible to motorists

Actually, if you think about the number of drivers on the road, and the distance driven, compared to the number of accidents, the figure is probably way higher than 95%, probably closer to 99.9%. If drivers making the right decision only 95% of the time, the accident and death rates would be much higher.

With it now confirmed that the car in the Point Cook crash was more than 100k over the speed limit, and the offending driver in the South Coast head-on being a serial driving offender who had served time for driving while disqualified and was on methadone treatment, one has to be a bit sceptical about the effectiveness of strict speed limits enforcement by speed cameras as a road safety tool.

Victorian police are alarmed by the nearly twofold increase in drivers with BAC above the limit. But with this still less than 1.5% of drivers tested and with over 20% of drivers involved in fatal accidents in that category, the major cause of accidents should be fairly clear. Even more concerning is that they also report slightly more drivers tested were on drugs than alcohol for the first time.

I believe that disqualified drivers who continue to drive should have the vehicle impounded - even if the vehicle belongs to someone else.

Yes, I understand there are issues with this approach.

It's basic psychology that a number of people/personality types are unable to think through consequences of actions.
This is why severe deterrents won't work for everyone.

I was talking to a very smart, well educated lady in her late seventies several years ago who admitted it was only in the last decade she realised she just did things without thinking through consequences.
This explained quite a few dodgy relationships!!!

Then you have the narcissist, borderline sociopath, psychopath who are above the law and societal norms and just don't give a flying fig about anyone else.

I think it's becoming well worthwhile buying a dash cam with these drivers around. Last week I had to pull off the side of the Princes Highway to avoid a car driving on my side of the road with the driver texting. They don't look up when you flash your lights either
