If you want to be pedantic, the V8 is a Pontiac engine. Only the TD5 is home grown out of the D2 engines. But only a very few manufacturers are capable of developing new motors today, and they need sales to other manufacturers to help pay for the development costs.

A long time ago. An original Buick V8 will not drop into even an early RR without much fabricating of parts. Very extensively re-developed by Rover, and had ceased being used in GM vehicles. All they bought was the design, not the actual engines (unlike the PSA motors in the D3/4)
