My mum brought a cheapie chipboard coffin stuck it in the garage then when needed there it was. We dressed it up with hand made flag of my brothers plus native flowers it looked stunning. That’s what I’ll be doing.

Some years ago a work colleague in PNG was involved in a plane crash , quite messy as you could imagine.
Anyhow , him being a Hindu we flew the family out, and organised an outdoor cremation as one sees on National Geographic.
Being amateurs at DIY Cremations we obtained some 8*8 Oak beams and over catered , etc etc .
The big day came and the family were most appreciative, apparently in India only Princes get oak or real timber , so he went to his gods first class.
The masses normally get scrap timber or even electric griddles.
By all means get a Defender. If you get a good one, you'll be happy. If you get a bad one, you'll become a philosopher.

the Indians are funny, they throw their half cremated remains into the Ganges river, then every one drinks washes and bathes in the cess pool of cremated remains , dead cows and turds floating in it . YUCK

You smell the rivers in India before you see them.

The hindu funeral tradition is particularly interesting. "The [funeral pyre] fire is left to burn itself out. In that time the body is transformed to ashes, and it is hoped the skull explodes to release the soul to heaven. When the fire has cooled, if the skull has not cracked open spontaneously, the oldest son splits it in two. If the cremation is done near the Ganges the bones and ashes are thrown into the Ganges."

Apparently at one stage turtles were re introduced, to replenish those hunted for meat , to the Ganges to dispose of the reamains not fully cremated. Wading into a river with flesh eating turtles sounds like something from a a bad b grade horror movie.

I met some back packers that went to India they took a couple of pic of the funerl fires, suddenly 50 millian Indians were after them, they managed to escape without getting beaten up. One thing you got to do is show respect to other cultures

Built a small warehouse adjacent a crematorium a few years back. By the end of the job I was nearly almost sort of getting used to the ash from the stack landing on me.
