I saw a boat that had a long row of bright RED LEDS on the cabin roof top , wanted to be seen at night so no one would run into him, but it hid all other lights on the boat. then years ago there were some Pacific islanders at St.Kild Marina they had left and right indicators on their old Bertram boat , they would indicate their moves in the marina

Unfortunately the trend for super bright leds is increasing on small boats.

I am a Volunteer Marine Rescue member and am required to do SAR at night on Gold Coast-Moreton Bay waterways.

These waters are difficult enough to navigate in daylight but at night become quite hazardous and the last thing you need when your night vision has kicked in is for some looney to approach in a blaze of light. and what do people do when they see something if they have a light in their hand? They shine it in your face.

For those putting down the water police.....I hope you need their services one day. They do a fantastic job.

There is no place for bright lights on our public waterways. adequate lighting is all that is needed.
