My travel days are over, and I turn 80 today! My last flight was from Bangkok, where I have lived for many years, stopover in Singapore, and then Perth, about a year ago.
The answer is to get yourself a walking stick, whether or not you need it! You don't need to order a wheelchair, just hobble up to the check in counter using the stick, where even in America, you will be asked if you need a wheelchair.
From then on it is priority travel, including automatically having a wheelchair waiting when you arrive back in Australia, where you should also bypass the also rans clearing immigration and customs.
You may also be boarded before the rest of the rabble, but may have to wait until all of them have dis-embarked in Australia. Have a safe trip! :twobeers:
