D3 Dual Cab

For me a dual cab has so many advantages. The air con cools the car quicker because its not having to cool the luggage area. You dont have to worry about gear coming forward or making noises including rattles. You can put jerry cans of petrol, diesel or your chainsaws 2stroke in there, or LPG bottles, no issues or illegality. The extra room always comes in handy, i took two storage tubs of firewood last trip. You can have a hard wearing surface like a spray on bedliner, i mean, compare that to carpet! I hate carpet in an offroader. By keeping the passenger compartment smaller you reduce booming noises you can get in larger spaces, and you get less road noise from the rear. I can of course chuck loose firewood in there, no mess on any carpet. I can use a snatch strap and get it all muddy and just chuck it in the back. The back is hose out. There are no plastic trims to break. No layers of carpet or vinyl or sound deadener to make a hassle of cleaning up any fluids spilt. Get dust in there, hose it out. You can even leave it a bit wet and it wont create issues like a pongy, foggy, mouldy interior. Sadly, you are all dreaming. LR ( Tata ) do not give a stuff about past markets. They are focussed on competing with Kia and Hyundai. Brand loyalty is a thing of the past in this brave new world.

Yep, that's the one. My bad, I thought it was a dual cab. Interesting looking car though.

I hate to say it But the 2006 Hilux has been Far more reliable than my 2004 D2a although both have similar mileages and it provides a far more comfortable and quieter ride than any defender.
It hasn't cost us a cracker in maintenance other than regular services and tyres in over 250k of use.
We have had 3x Hilux utes and 2x 4Runners over the years and the only "Lemon" was one of the 4Runners a 1996 auto which was a POS that was forever breaking down But the utes have lived up to the "Unbreakable" reputation for us so far.
However as the D2a is by far a much more comfortable and capable truck and a delight to drive compared to the twin cab Hilux and I have No doubts whatsoever that IF Landrover had optioned All their discoveries with a Twin cab model we would have bought one instead of the Hilux.
Landrover missed the boat by Not offering twin cab disco's as far as I am concerned.

Yep I agree a DC Disco would be sweet.
Still, all this debate about new, more comfortable, just as capable 4x4's etc etc is all very well.
I've had hiluxes too, but I don't think the newer ones will go the long run & they're very complex by comparison to my td5. I want a truck that's going to go and go and when it breaks, as they all do, I fix it and it'll go some more.
Plus, defenders are a true truck, mine will lug a 3t trailer with a tonne in the back and 1/2t on the roof. [emoji1]

I agree there should’ve been a Disc ute. There was the Challenger but it didn’t get off the ground as they were chasing MOD contracts IIRC. I’ve almost given up on LR now. They should’ve dropped the name with the Defender & gone with Range Rover instead.

All of the above. But don't discount the Koreans. The German marques are well aware of the threat posed. Read Clarkson on the Hyundai 130N. Not an SUV, for sure, but a sign of how Korea has been learning.

Korean ( South, obviously ) cars are rapidly gaining market share LR can only dream of. The only German make safe for now is VW. The one most under threat is probably the family owned BMW. Kia, in particular, seem to be going after them.
