What's the Bruce H/W like between Nambour and Gladstone? Double lane, 4- lane, flat, hilly, any/ plenty/ sufficient overtaking lanes, speed limit? I don't mind road works at all. The last time I traveled up there was 40 years ago. Whenever we go north in the Series L/R we take an inland route. Just thought it would make a change. Any information would be appreciated, even if you're only intimately familiar with part of the route. Thank you.

SupporterBack wen I was working I would head north from Brisbane every month ( I retired 7 years ago ) I found the Brisbane to Gladstone section of the Hwy very boring & time consuming , I would travel inland as far as far as I could then head east to Gladstone , If I was going further north would would head east to Rockhampton. The plus side was there was a good chance of seeing a S1 LR going inland.On one trip alone I spotted 6 either on the road or in paddocks.
One time I was working in Gladstone & had to go to Emerald to do a couple of hours work , while driving through Comet I spotted a S1 in a yard & on the way back drove down the side street to have a better look & the guy had a yard full of S1's & a large shed foll of LR parts , He also had a Rover P2 car in almost perfect condition. I spent 4 hours there talking to the guy & didn't get back to Gladstone until 8.30 that night.

back in the late eighties I was working in Gladstone and coming home weekends
Going up I used to go through Gympie, turn left to Kilkivan, about 25klm along, turn right and go through Woolooga, then Wooloolga - Biggenden road (look out for the bridge on the side of the road), just before Biggenden turn right onto the Isis for a while, then through Darrarnil and then turn left up the Darrarnil-Booyal Rd and come out at Booyal, just south of Gin Gin. very relaxing drive.
in those days it saved nearly an hour of travel as you went through Maryborough etc and I also hated the Childers stretch as it was boring as bat **** and dangerous as hell in places.

We decided to take an inland route again. Went to Dalby, Jandowae, Mundubbera, south of the river to Gayndah, Mingo Crossing, Mount Perry, Monto, Cania Gorge , Kroombit Tops, Calliope, Many Peaks, Miriam Vale to 1770.On the way home. 1770, Rosedale, Gin Gin, Goodnight Scrub, Mingo Crossing, Biggenden, Woolooga, Gympie and downt he 4-lane Bruce Highway to Beenleigh. The worst bit was between the Kilkivan turn off and Gympie, and it wasn't even peak. hour or holidays. The other time we used the Bruce highwaw was about 10-15km either side of GinGin. An enjoyable drive. We camped at various places and took several side trips.
