Can relate mate, our workplace 'bends over backwards' for the 'problem children' time and time again, yet if one of us reliable, punctual, diligent workers makes a mistake once, it's a file note. Worlds gone mad.
Well, today saw me at one of our local training centers to do a course on turret lift trucks,,, which for those who don't know, are forklifts that the whole seating/standing platform raises up to about 8m + high. Depending on what your doing, you can be strapped in with a seat belt to lift a whole pallet, or be attached to the framework with a safety harness and lanyard to step out onto the pallet, and "pick" parts/whatever, to place on the pallet your standing on.
However, although the course itself is good, and something I don't mind having on my resume',, of the 5 people that were supposed to show up,,, you've probably guessed it,, one didn't. His excuse,, he broke up with his Mrs, and can't/couldn't handle the stress of being there,,,, poor boy. He had been sent to do the course by Center-link, or whoever it is who works this crap. It costs them nothing to do these courses, yet they screw over everyone concerned, from those who organised it, to us who had to wait until we knew whether or not he was going to comeI'm so sick of being on the receiving end of these ****ing useless *****.
Then, to top it all off, I get home from this tonight, go around to the passengers side of my car, and some scum sucking ****wit has jammed a door into mine. No note, nothing. Its not a huge mark, but geez there are some totally disrespectful oxygen thieving ******* out there.
Rant over,,, I'll go back to studying now![]()

I hear you, Marcus. One day when I was at the hospital someone hit the passenger door of Jan's car with what appears to be an ice pick. Same thing, no note, nothing.
I need to ask: what sort of trainers do you have that hold up an entire course because someone is late? That is a no no at pretty much every course I have done. Their being late is their problem, not yours.

Another , fourth actually , driver has quit today , where I work. Last year the turnover was approximately one gone every ten days. Not bad for a place with about 60 positions. So now two drivers positions open few applicants.
We are also supposed to be doing cert three courses paid for by the company, but the trainers haven’t been back since the initial sign up.
The work levels and responsibilities have increased without a pay rise. And the ads for open positions usually generate responses along the lines of you must be joking. Company reviews on the job sites are even more scathing
So I guess for every person singled out for avoiding training programs there is also a workplace that generates this feeling. Soon hopefully it will be my turn to leave. And no sign of the tafe training coarse after 7 months of the 12 it was scheduled for.
That's how I believe it should be to, however, with all the paperwork you have to fill out first, it makes it hard with a group when one is behind during the course. We already had one that rocked up about 15/20 mins late. He however, thought about what was going on, and offered to finish his paperwork in his lunch break,,, a cool move I thought,, and considerate too. Its already hard enough when one of us is doing a slightly different section to the others
The only bonus of all this, was a young woman who had turned up a month early, got to take his place,,, and good luck to her, it seems to be something she "wants" to do, therefore trying hard to do it. She's only a learner in a car, so she's doing well so far.
Yes, companies just seem to be expecting more and more with no real remuneration for the effort, and I believe 9/10 dont even get a "thank you" for extra work they do. Dangling carrots etc will only get them so far, then people start to not care. When the care factor goes, so does the quality and quantity. Unless you have a good working active union behind you, you've got no hope.
And I hate unions,,,, but I can see where they can be good in some cases.
When I was doing confined space entry climbing into sometimes very warm storage tanks or kettles which I needed lube to get through the regulation hole cut into them or their hatch lids. We used to get paid an extra $1.50 an hour. Other workers thought what a fool we were to do it. The only thing that made it worth while is we refused to do it during factory operating times due to forklift fumes etc and would do it on Saturadys , so they would shut the factory down for us. We got double time for Saturdays, so it made it more profitable for us.
