Do Brits import Defenders etc ?

If you read the Landrover mags coming out of the UK the Brits seem to be going ape over the Defender. Do they source them from Australia? Anyone sold one to a UK buyer? What would it cost to ship a Defender back to the UK?

There are/were plenty of 'defenders' in the UK. If they are importing them its because they are exporting so many!

There is some good business the UK importing left hand drive 'defenders' to renovate and export to the US.

Defenders arent allowed in the US so they have to be County's or SIII's.

The older ones can be brought in under the 25 year rule.

Yeah there are 'defenders' with factory issued stickers that qualify now. All 90/110/130s can be badged with the Defender name, like it or not.

Correct. Any vehicle at least 25 years old with the original engine type is eligible to the US. Defenders are particularly scrutinized at the border though as some blokes were taking old, rotting in a field vin numbers and applying them to newly manufactured defenders claiming they were 'updated'. There are (sadly) videos on youtube posted by customs of a few that were confiscated, being destroyed as examples. Hurts to watch them, but has acted as a good deterrent for those who might consider trying something so shady.

I used to import new discoveries to the U.K. from Australia. Save the buyer thousands and quicker delivery times than going to local dealer. Cannot do this anymore as the EU introduced legislation to give the owner of the trade mark control over its use within the EU. Without permission of trade mark owner cannot import.

Falcon utes used to come in rebranded as Fortes. Had to change branding on car and all paperwork even then they had problems

Ford Fairlane and LTD were imported by conversion companies for limo and funeral car markets. Due to the nature of the product when converted and lack of a suitable product from Ford in Europe they may have been able to obtain approval from trade mark owners
