Caveat emptor!
Hi everyone.
I've got a family of 5, with 3 kids of 5, 7 and 10 years old. We're planning on going on a 3 month trip from Melbourne to Cairns and beyond in June. We have a camper trailer that we really like, but I'm not looking forward to the constant up and down and roughing it for that length of time.
So, we are thinking of either renting a caravan or buying one. I've been doing a lot of research and I've come across a Windsor Genesis caravan that has a fold up queen size bed (it folds up into a cavity in the wall in the front) that leaves a huge amount of seating and table space during the day. It also has large triple bunks across the rear wall.
Does anyone have any experience with this type of caravan (specifically this type of fold up bed) or Windsor more broadly or the Genesis make in particular?
All feedback gratefully received.
Cheers,
Brendan.

Hi V8lan. Yes, I had seen that Product Review page, but that didn't really ring too many bells because that's not a bad rating really compared to many other caravan reviews, for example:
Jayco Starcraft Reviews - ProductReview.com.au
Personally not a fan of the cheaper mid 90's to mid 2000's vans, seen a lot of issues. If you only plan to use it one off for this trip, renting would be a better option IMO.
There's some great vans out there of that vintage, I wouldn't rate Windsor amongst them. There earlier stuff before they were sold off were much better.
If you need to contact me please email homestarrunnerau@gmail.com - thanks - Gav.
I believe Jayco are cheap (relatively), mass produced, with hit and miss QA, but very honourable with warranty claims.
Our Avan had a number of problems, that shouldn't have been issues on a premium priced van, but all known issues were rectified promptly without argument.

Hi Homestar. Thanks for the feedback. We're looking at around 2008 vintage. I suppose we'll see what the quality is like when we check it out this weekend. Would getting it checked over by a caravan inspection service be of any use do you think? What are the main problems with Windsor caravans in your experience that we should look out for?
