    Camper van hire

    Good day, planning a touring type visit to Australia early in 2019, starting off in Sydney. Thinking of hiring a 2 berth camper van as it takes care of transport and accommodation. We are based is South Africa and are not too familiar with what is available/suggested so would appreciate any advice that you may have regarding:

    1) recommended/suggested hire companies;
    2) recommended/suggested van configuration;
    3) what to avoid;
    4) petrol or diesel;
    5) is a van with toilet/shower necessary or are ablutions at camp sites reasonable/good.

    many thanks

    Camper van hire

    If you're on a budget, try Juicy or one of those "backpacker" type mobs. Petrol and diesel are both readily available, and the cost is fairly close. Layout isn't really an issue, but you'll want something with insect screens for the nights.
    Showers and toilets at caravan parks are generally pretty good. There are a number of websites that have campground information, either free or for a small subscription fee.
    Come on over and have a look - you'll love it!

    These "Wicked" campers are a common sight on the roads in Western Australia and I have seen them in all sorts of configurations from small sedans to large 4WD's.
    The mini vans like the L300 are probably the most common I have seen usually with interesting graffiti like paint jobs that makes them stand out.

    Not a camper, but a Defender with camping gear. $200 per day, equipped. Or $140 per day if you hire for more than 2 weeks.

    That's cheaper than what it cost me to hire a Defender (equipped) in South Africa.
