    MoveLater2 Taxi Racing 2018

Just watching the taxi racing on TV - noticed that RedBull Holden is now using the new Opel Insignia Hatch back body - not sure of its engine and drivetrain but I guess it is not the V6 and front wheel drive - I assume they have the old Commodore engine and drive train - rear wheel drive. This formula is even further removed from anything on the road.

What I find even more odd with the new Commodore is that it is not even a General Motors product any more - sure started as a GM Germany car but is now a Peugeot/Citroen product - no design influences from Peugeot/Citroen as yet but I guess over time it will happen. Interesting that Peugeot/Citroen through their parent PSA group have a closer relationship to Ford than General Motors - PSA and Ford make our TDV6/8 engines and others.

So we have a GM car that is not actually GM but is Opel/Peugeot/Citroen - you gotta love that.

I wonder if new Commodore owners will be putting Peugeot Lion Badges on their cars instead of the GM Lion.

I believe they are still crumpledoors ( some are even last years cars) and have some custom composite rear body panels, made by Redbull for all the holden teams.

The “V8’s” are so far from production spec (body, engine, gearbox, diff) and have been for years. It’s a scripted series - but the “fans” don’t seem to care. I suppose there isn’t any point in bringing back true production motorsport - because nothing is made here anymore. This series is now 100% irrelevant..

I don't think it is supposed to be relevant, it is pure entertainment and not much more. The level of entertainment is up to the individual. I am a petrol head like most on this forum and although I watch the supercars, I am no where near as passionate about them as I was in the Group A days.

It is an orphan formula that is not relevant - the cars would not be competitive in any international formula like the cars in the Bathurst 12 Hour.

    It is a Holden product,,,
    and as such is eligable,,

where the panels come from is somewhere in France,, and all the new "Commodore" drive train parts will come from that country too,,

The newest comodores are definately low price/quality items,,

Lol,...the usual super positive comments, from the usual suspects, so all is normal.
People seem to forget that the original Commodore was an Opel, the VF was the first truly "Äussie" Commodore, but it still used an American V8 engine & running gear.
Yes Peugot do now own Opel, but that deal was done after Supercars decided upon its current direction. And yes, it will be interesting to learn how long a Peugot can continue to be sold as a Holden in Aus.
The 5L engine is still being used, but a V6 Turbo engine based on a U.S G.M. racing engine is being tested & has actually run in a Red Bull car, which is now the Holden Racing Team, supposedly because V8s are no longer available in an Aussie car,....I don't agree with the reasoning.
I reckon Adelaide was a great event, and the fans obviously did because there were record crowds, S.A. Govt VERY happy. Great value too,....Robbie Williams & Sheppard performing in concert tonight, free for all ticket holders, making entry a bargain in view of Williams' popularity & entry costs to his concerts,...we paid to see him at "An Evening On The Green" at Rochford, great concert.....cost a bit more than racegoers paid though!
I loved Adelaide, watched all the Supercar telecast over the whole 4 days on Foxtel, and the new ZB went very well,...Mr Penske's team has some catching up to do,...which they obviously will. Even an invigorated "Walkinshaw" team, which still has many Holden supporters put on a good performance.
For those of you that like racing based on road vehicles, maybe you have interest in Superutes based on the most popular vehicles currently sold in Aus.
So, all is good, & whilst no Aussie V8s can now be bought, I'm about to take delivery of one of the last ,an HSV GTSR!
Always loved V8s road or race, makes no difference to me.
