    Oh my....

First single was Travelling Band by CCR. First album was Sergeant Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band. My sisters played all through my formative years Bob Dylan. This was an album, and it would come to haunt me in my years with Jan. But, CCR, and then the Beatles. Hard Day's Night, and Help!

    Nothing like being old.

Don 130. Sheesh.. Julia still sends shivers down my spine... Way later than my 'first', but wow...

"I hope I never" was the only good track on it. Sadly, Split Enz relied on Tim, when the true talent lied within Neil. Well, in my view. It's a pity that "Message to My Girl" wasn't on it, as it would have then been one of the greats... But it wasn't.

But heck, what would I know? As for cassette, rather than album, my first cassette was Living in the 70's by Skyhooks. Funny, I can remember my first album clearly, as can most people. The Beatles have that effect. Skyhooks, not so much.

I'm afraid to say a cassette of Tom Jones Live at the Flamingo Hotel [ Las Vegas]. To my knowledge, I was the first person in my school to own a cassette player and I don't think there was much choice of cassettes in those days. Not in the bush anyway.

I think I first really heard Hot August Night when it was simulcast live on TV and FM radio when Neil Diamond did a concert in Sydney in 1976. The reason being that TV only had mono sound (and maybe not as good as FM radio).

I think my copy of Hot August Night is for Quadraphonic - I built up the Electronics Australia SQ Stereo Quadraphonic decoder back in the Seventies.

First CD I bought was Boz Scaggs - I still have it.
Can't remember the first LP, but like you there was certainly a copy of Hot August Night in there in the early days, along with various Beatles albums.

There was no radio station (or TV) in Ceduna and radio could only be received at night - and it was subject to fading) so I joined the World Record Club and ordered LPs every month. I still have them.

Possibles could have been The Seekers; Peter, Paul, and Mary; Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass; et al.
My first was definitely The Seekers Sing Their Big Hits, followed by Peter, Paul and Mary, also bought from the World Record Club. I started buying in the mid 60's.

My turntable was bought new form a disposal store and was housed in a cardboard box since it had no case. It was played trough a valve radio that a friend rewired to use some of the receiver as part of the amplifier. I was at UNE at the time.
