    Does anyone still buy records?

I don't use my stereo in the house any more - turntable, CD player, MD player, Pioneer amp, tuner, Wharfedale speakers in the lounge room that sit idle. Music doesn't get played at all in the house. I listen to my iPhone on the bike and CDs in the car (if I don't have a passenger). I don't listen to radio, none of the radios in the house are actually tuned to a radio station and the Rangie only has one station programmed in.

In the garage I have a spare iPhone loaded with music connected to my old Harmon-Kardon HK630 stereo receiver and old KEF bookshelf speakers.

I have another 7.1 sound system (again Wharfedale speakers - a different pair) connected to the TV and BlueRay player. It gets used every day for TV and rarely (once a year maybe) for DVDs. (That system used to belong to my son.)

Mine was living in the 70s by skyhooks. Vinyl. Played it to death. First cassette was bat outa hell meatloaf. Best vinyl record I had was by Norman Gunston. It was funny and I loved it...till my kids got to it and destroyed it and the needle on my record player. They liked the scratchy sounds....grrr

My sister's kids are always buying vinyl. There are some crazy prices being paid for some seemingly mundane old music.

Even lesser known acts are getting their music out there on locally pressed discs these days.

A vinyl analogue disc contains waaaaay more information than a digital CD of the same music, which owners of even reasonable quality turntables thoroughly enjoy.

I know what you mean. I used to have a bulky stereo amp, tuner, CD player and speakers hooked up to the TV. Then we bought a sound bar and now I just have the CD player and TV connected to it. I only listen to radio in the car now. My music is on my iPod and lives in the Defender. Good earphones are replacing speakers. Music habits have changed. Most people listen to music on their phones.

We no longer have any of the following:
    CD Player
    DVD / BluRay Player
    Games consoles
    Video Recorder
    Record Player / Turntable

Our entire viewing and listening is now Internet or File based.

Which is great until your network connection drops out. So yeah, almost. Seeing a mate in the outback shouting "Siri, siriiiii, oi Siri!" at his watch was too funny.

I keep all MY music on file, and take a curated selection on USB for travel. Almost all my vinyl has a digital copy. The copies are worthless, the vinyl is gold!

Since getting an Amazon Echo Ive started using cloud music services around the house. Pretty much any song that comes to mind I can ask to be played - no need to get up or find a screen, jusk ask. The accuracy of voice recognition through this device is very impressive. For someone who already spends too much time interfacing with a screen and keyboard , its bloody brilliant!

Yes yes I know the KGB, or anyone, could start listening in on my mumbelings... but oh the convenience! First bought music?

The way I look at it a music collection should be tangible, like a landie collection. If the internet goes down I still have access. Only on the gizmos for portability and insurance. Each time I get a new record , either download with the provided code or most often converted to digital with a special pre amp and software package on the confused. Couldn’t get by without my music.

If your local internet goes down for sure.

If THE internet goes down you, me and almost everyone else will be on battery devices as the Power will go out... First bought music?

I keep a huge amount (if not all) my music on USB and HDD (tangible) and a cloud back up of it all also..

I’ll never lose mine if the net died...

If I lived in Aus I'd be making you an offer. That was my dream rig in years gone by.
