I was in Tully Heads, post the 2011 blow. There was three generations of a dark family, taking photos of each other. I offered to take a picture of the family, in their entirety. They gratefully accepted and said all the damage was down to them, they were from New Guinea and their name was Yasi.

Just got the power back on, after 26 hours. Sick of the sound of a generator, but glad we have it.

Yes, another (bigger) cyclone supposedly coming over us next Sunday-ish. The source for this seems to be windy.com, according to everyone I talk to. Proof of the accuracy is in the pudding.

This is from the BOM website.
    "
In the longer term, the monsoon trough is redeveloping in the Arafura Sea and a tropical low may form within the trough mid next week."
In the meantime Marcus is giving Kalumburu a bit of a pasting at the moment as a cat2 storm.

Thanks Trout. After looking at windy.com I went over to the BOM for some validation and saw the information on the tropical low. So there will be some activity - but what will really come out of it?
Have already joked with my brother in southern NSW that my family might be moving in

He countered that he would move his caravan to Alice for us, but that is as far as we should come

Oz cyclone chasers also had a projected track up yesterday that put a cat 4 cyclone straight across nightcliff next sunday but I see today its not there.

Windy.com has 2 models , 1 puts the low north of the tiwi's next Thursday and then late Saturday it heads straight south and into Darwin early am sunday , the other model has it track east into the gulf and head for south of Weipa.

We should know more by Wednesday.

    Cheers Ean

...maybe Nightcliff saw the projected track and moved...

We're this moment laying out provisions on the dining room table and thinking through action plans.
