Give me a call before you buy.

Hi folks, owing to the amount of work I have had over the last few months, I have not had time to up date the TRAXIDE web site.

The problem is that I have been purchasing a number of new lines and need to put them on my site so you can see what I have.

So before you go buying anything, either post your request here or PM me and if I have the item(s) you are after I’ll post info and prices.

An example of what I mean, I now have a 250 amp ON / OFF Battery Switch for $28-oo and a 250 amp 4 Position Battery Switch for $48-oo

The prices include GST and as an AULRO site member you get 10% off.

If there is anything electrical you are think about getting just ask.

    Cheers

Drivesafe - had a look at your website, and got a question on the Anderson plugs (the 175 one). Is this high enough capacity to handle winch wires. I've got a Warn 9000 and would like a quick disconnect method, but maybe 175A is not enough?

Also - will you be posting up pictures of those 4 way switches on your website soon? I'd like to take a look at them.

    Thanks
    David

Hi spudboy, check the current rating of your winch and then you will know if they are rated high enough.

The Anderson plugs come in three standard current ratings. I carry the SB50 ( 50 amp ) and the SB175 ( 175 amp ) in stock but I can also get the SB350 ( 350 amp ) but I would have to source a price for you on the SB350.

The Anderson plugs current rating is their continuous rating, but they can handle much, much higher surge currents.

In the case of using them with a winch you should make sure that you do not exceed the Anderson plugs continuos rating because of the amount of time they are likely to be loaded up.

BTW I also carry the 30 amp Anderson PowerPoles in black and red. These are great replacements for the cigarette plug and sockets used on fridges and are perfect for use on driving light looms when they regularly installed and removed. No pics available yet but the clip together in any numbers needed ( usually 1 red and 1 black ) and will NOT rattle loose and they are much smaller than the cigarette lighter type.
    I sell them for $2-50 each or a set of 4 ( 2 x red + 2 x black ) for $8-oo.

Next, as posted above, I am flat out so I don’t really have the time to set up and do all the work needed to get my site up to date but the picture of the switch that Defender200Tdi posted is very similar to the ones I carry except mine have a large round red knob and a black base.

Click on the URL blow to see Defender200Tdi’s switch.

    Drivesafe,

With all of this talk about kids using your winch to destroy your 4WD what is the best method to prevent any use of the winch for permanently mounted winches.

I'm about to get a Warn 9.5XP fitted to the D3. According to the ARB catalog it has up to 480 Amp current draw.

ARB quoted me an isolator switch for $150 plus fitting but reading Crump's post on "Secure your winch" it doesn't seem that even isolating the winch is the go. There is a mention about prevent the control circuit from use.

I'm no genius with electrics so a layman's explaination would be good.

    Any ideas?

    Chris

    Drivesafe,
Have you got any further with the wiring loom kits? Once I have sorted out all my other dramas it will be next on my list.

Hi RichardK, the very reason I’m behind with everything else is because just about all my time and effort is going into a new Dual Battery system for the D3s and RRSs.

LRA have tested a modified version of the SC40 and both LRA and LR in Britain have cleared it for use on their vehicles but are saying they don’t give out right approval under normal circumstances, so SC40 is being suggested to anyone that enquires about a suitable and safe Dual Battery Controller for the new LRs by those in the know.

The problem is that no matter what system you fit, including my modified SC40, the charging system on the D3 and RRS can easily cook most batteries, so although my SC40 will protect the vehicle, the auxiliary battery needs protecting from the vehicle’s charging system and I am flat out developing a micro processor based system that will not only protect the vehicle’s electric's but will allow any form of auxiliary battery to be fitted and be able to be charged without risk of damage, in these new vehicles.

I now, thanks to Jamo, have standing orders from all over the world, but until I have completely tested the new unit and I'm satisfied with it, I can’t do more.

One thing I will tell you is that the new system is going to be virtually Plug-and-Play. It should take no more that 15 minutes to fit to a D3 with no holes to drill and no modifications in anyway, just fit and forget.

PCH, I have never had a winch and only worked on other peoples, as a standard installation so, as much as I would like to help you, it’s outside my normal realm of work. Sorry about that.

Craige, once again, sorry but like everything else, it’s on back burner. I will let you know as soon as I am back on track.

    Cheers.

    Thanks for the info Drivesafe.

Now, do you mean that the new micrprocesor will work in conjunction with the SC40?, or will the new microprocessor do the lot?

    Drivesafe,
No worries, I am in no hurry at the momment anyway. Hopefully my dramas are only the injector wiring harness and nothing worse at the moment.
Good luck with the D3 system and I hope it makes you rich.

Hi again RichardK, owing to the amount of continuos monitoring and calculations that have to be done, not only based on the vehicles charging voltage but also on how much current the auxiliary battery is pulling and so on, the SC40 and for this matter any other dual battery system just couldn’t handle the info needed to be processed.

The ONLY way to do this is with a micro processor doing everything.

In the case of the D3 and RRS, there are a number of additional special requirements and this is what I’m working on.

Luckily, I have the use of my wife’s D3 to do all the development work and this will greatly speed things up.

Also, luckily I was already working on a new range of products based on Micros and much of the development work has already been done and just has to be adapted to the new requirements

I am still months away from a production model.

Hi Craige, once full in service testing of the new dual battery system starts, I should have time to start catching up on everything else.

I’ll let you know as soon as it’s ready.

    Cheers.
