    TD5 Top Speed

I would be interested to hear others experience with the top speed achievable with a TD5 Auto.

I've just returned from a day trip south of Darwin - into the "free speed zone" and decided to give the TD5 a run. Flat out with a slight downhill runup I could only manage 150k. Once I reached the flat it lost a bit to sit on 145. The vehicle is running a snorkel, 255/55 R18 road tyres and otherwise fairly standard.

My previous TDi could only manage 140 before reaching terminal velocity - didnt matter if it was down hill or not. I did expect more from the 5 but then again with the aerodynamics of a brick I guess I should not expect too much.

    Appreciate other comments / experiences.

This should be interesting to read...

I've had the V8 at a bit over 160 and still accellerating....

But remember the aerodynamics of a disco fit somwhere between those af a Brick and the average hippopotomus ( RON.... Help.... I can't spell Hippo!! {Or anything else for that matter..})

I'd be interested to hear the differences between those with and without chips too....

He won't have to use our dirty chimney flue
Just bring him through the front door,
that's the easy thing to do

Mom says the hippo would eat me up, but then
Teacher says a hippo is a vegeterian

There's lots of room for him in our two-car garage
I'd feed him there and wash him there and give him his massage

Havent had a chance to run my TD5 flat out but did hit 140 prior to chipping. Would think 150 is in easy reach with Chip now....

I had a demo TD5 auto when they first came out up to 165kph with my wife and the salesman inside. Even the salesman was impressed. The Defender I have had up to about 145kph on a good day.
My tdi Disco manual would sit on 140 no problems on even ground all day if required.

It's not a Td5, but the 200tDi in my 93 Defender used to hit 145km/h up here in the Territory. Minor hills used to drop the speed down to around 120 though!

BTW, I fitted Discovery high-range gears into the transfer case when I put the Maxi-Drives in!

Its just 160ks in a brick shaped vehicle that handles and stops like a small truck, umm well it just not for me.

I love speed but there are horses for courses

    IMHO
