A Decent Alloy Wheel Cleaner

Has anone found a decent cleaner for alloys. I've tried a few and frankly, I think dishwashing detergent and a stiff brush seem to work as well as any of the so called 'easy cleaners'.

If you've found one that does what they say it does, let everybody know please.

My next door neighbour is a alloy mag wheel tech for ROH , he told me NEVER EVER EVER use alloy wheel cleaners on your rims .....they remove and break down the lacquor coating .

He only recommends MORNING FRESH disahwash and a bannister brush and chamious that is it .......

He said basically if you use a chemical cleaner don't ask ROH for warranty 8O

check out autoglym's mag wheel cleaner. i think it has a guarantee against danaging the wheels. it's the stuff all of the restorers use on their concours cars.

Wardy,

I use Kitten mag wheel cleaner, but I believe with most powerful cleaners its the way you use it. This is what I do.

1. Wash wheel with either water or car washing gel.
2. Spray mag wheel cleaner onto wet wheel - Most important.
3. Wait for only 5 - 10 seconds, then wash wheel again with water or car washing gel.
4. Thoroughly rinse off including brakes and disc/hub.

If you feel it needs a brush, use a tooth brush. It will not be too severe on the mag wheel.

I think the tip is to not to leave the acidic mag wheel cleaner on for too long. Another is to not let the brake dust build up. It only makes it harder to get off.

Buy steel wheels, when they start to rust; get out the grinder.

Don't use dishwasher powder on aluminium.

Window cleaner and a damp cloth.
Works well unless the brake-dust is REALLY caked on. Then I'd use the mag-wheel cleaners - otherwise it's just over the top and you probably end up doing more damage to the coating.
