    My driveway????

Sorry, Mate! I couldn't resist that.
I guess Land Rovers would've marked a lot of territory in Shoalwater Bay.

My dad was a Senior or maybe Supervising technician for the PMG back in the 60's.
He had a Land Rover that he used to use to drive up hills around Proserpine to build some sort of towers.
The Japanese actually did most of the installations.
Maybe look into the what the PMG did with theirs?
I vaguely recall going up some hill near Shute Harbour with him to fix something in a little shed/box.
No road, thick forest, heaps of mud & as I recall some pretty strange angles.

PS If I saw that LR coming down the road when I was late home from somewhere I knew I was in it pretty deep!

I take it you are looking for a place of "some" LR significance to have a Qld 70th get together ?

Well, Qld Gov. had a quite few. You could stand on the "Tropical" roof to enhance views and, yes, that's me with the denim jacket. You should be able to name the mountain in the background!
This was early 70's. I'm sure I could chase more photos if you're interested, Inc!

These aren't too flash as they were taken with a Polaroid Instant. State of the art then, mate!

When I was working in Mapoon (Old Mapoon) a few years ago there were 2 open Defenders or Series 3's in the mechanics yard with something like "Australian Geographic Expedition" or similar written on the door.
They were white (or bloody faded).
The mechanic & I discussed getting 1 going by combining the 2.
Then I got the offer back in Doomadgee & nothing came of it.
They are probably still up there.

    PS Great spot, Mapoon.

Dave, I spoke with Col ex A&T the only place he can think of is the assembly plant at Blulimba he thinks it is still there & not being used. I will give you a call next week about a couple of ideas.
